Afforestation (Skovrejsning)

Afforestation is the establishment of new woodland on land that was not previously wooded, typically agricultural land.

The Green Tripartite (Grøn Trepart) includes the establishment of 250,000 ha of woodland by 2045. Grants are applied for through MARS (Denmark's land-use planning and application system), and the land must be made subject to a statutory obligation to remain forested. According to SGAV (the Danish Agency for Green Transition and Aquatic Environment), the land must not be § 3-natur (habitats protected under section 3 of the Danish Nature Protection Act) and, as a general rule, must not be low-lying land with more than 6 per cent organic carbon.
