Grants for private untouched forest: requirements and process
Updated
The Green Tripartite (Grøn Trepart) aims for 80,000 ha of private untouched forest. The grant scheme compensates private forest owners who permanently cease forestry operations.

Who can apply?
Only private forest owners: individuals, companies, foundations, associations and similar entities. Public authorities, parish councils and clergy offices cannot apply.
Land requirements
Under the statutory order, the area must, among other requirements, cover at least 1 ha, consist substantially of native tree species and old trees, and have or obtain fredskov status (legally protected forest land).
A permanent agreement
The agreement is permanent, and compensation is provided for the prohibition on forestry operations. SGAV (the Danish Agency for Green Transition and Aquatic Environment) calculates the grant based on the net value of the trees and standard rates for lost future income.
The 2026 round
The 2026 application round ran from 10 April to 10 June 2026, with a funding allocation of DKK 13.4 million. It is closed. Follow SGAV for future rounds.
The application
The area must be mapped in MiljøGIS (the environmental mapping system), and overview maps, detailed maps and the necessary permits must be attached. Photographs and a dated record of the forest's condition can strengthen the description of its ecological value.
