Applying via MARS: how the grant application process starts
Updated
MARS is not just a planning tool. It is also the gateway to several grant schemes. Here is the route through the systems, as described by Landbrugsstyrelsen (the Danish Agricultural Agency) and SGAV (the Danish Agency for Green Transition and Aquatic Environment).

Map the project area
All applications for wetland and low-lying land projects start in MARS, where the project area is mapped. The location determines which effects can be assessed and whether the project is eligible for funding.
Feasibility studies and track 2
Applications for feasibility studies and implementation under track 2 are made via MARS, which takes you to the application form in F2-selvbetjening (F2 self-service).
Track 1
Applications for implementation under track 1 are made via Tast selv (the self-service portal). Supporting documents cannot be attached to the form, but must be emailed to vkp@sgav.dk with the case reference number in the subject line.
Afforestation
Applications for afforestation grants are also made via MARS using MitID (Denmark's digital identity system). Start by mapping the area you want to plant and place under a permanent forest protection obligation.
Payment
Payment for feasibility studies and track 2 is requested through MARS, and for track 1 through Tast selv.
Prepare in advance
- Have a precise boundary ready, preferably as a polygon.
- Know the cadastral parcels and landowners.
- Check for § 3-protected habitats (under the Danish Nature Protection Act) and consult low-lying land maps for the area.
- Keep a dated copy of what you submitted.
Frequently asked questions
Do you need to log in to MARS to apply?
Yes. Afforestation applications require MitID. Screening does not require a login.
